By international standards or even by the standards of the Australian states’ vice-regal residences, the four official residences of the Commonwealth of Australia could not be described as grand. Only The Lodge was purpose built, although only as a temporary residence. The other three houses have been modified to meet the needs of the Governor-General and Prime Minister.
